Recently, the lighthouse underwent a multi-million-dollar restoration which expanded the grounds of the property and added many guest-friendly amenities. One of the most exciting additions is a stunning replica of the 1925 lightkeeper’s dwelling that includes a museum exhibiting the lighthouse and keeper’s history, shipwrecks, ocean life, and much more. Besides the fee to climb the steps of the lighthouse, all other attractions and parking are complimentary and dog-friendly. The lighthouse holds many monthly events, such as a murder mystery series, nighttime climbs, haunted lighthouse tours, and—during the summer—free yoga every Thursday at 6 PM.
This month, consider taking the opportunity to participate in The Last Splash, a mermaid and pirate-themed ocean awareness festival. Ticket proceeds from the September 17th fundraiser will benefit the Absecon Lighthouse as well as the Marine Mammal Stranding Center. With your ticket, you’ll be able to enjoy the two-acre property at The Absecon Lighthouse that’s just a block from the beach. Live music and vendors will fill the area with some offering workshops, a treasure hunt, kids' activities, a costume contest, and more. Conveniently, this event is just before International Talk Like a Pirate Day on Monday, September 19th so you can try out your best “yarr”. Pack a picnic, support a good cause, and enjoy soaking up the last moments of summer between noon and 6 pm. Find more information about the event and various sponsorship packages by clicking here. The rain date is September 24th.
Regular hours for visiting the lighthouse between September and June are Thursday through Monday, 11 am to 4 pm with the last tower climb always half an hour before closing. The lighthouse is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Whether you time your visit for the festival on the 17th or visit any other day of the week, stay with us at Seaview. You’ll have so much to see and do at the lighthouse and the shore beyond that you’ll want to at least stay the night.
